After making my Papaya Boat, I used the balance half papaya for a breakfast smoothie drink the following day – Papaya Banana Smoothie. Usually smoothie recipes use ice cream or yoghurt to thicken it, I tried using banana instead and it worked very well. The secret to this drink – lemon juice. This Orange Monster perked me up for the rest of the day.
What’s so good about this fruit? From www.nutritiondata.self.com, papaya is a good source of Dietary Fiber, Potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Folate.
Oh I just remembered another goodness of the papaya.. When I was a small small girl (about 5 years old), I was irritated by a bee that came near me while I was playing masak-masak (pretend cooking). I tried to shoo it away and I think the bee became angry and stung me.. WAH!!! My mama quickly got an unripe papaya from the tree in our garden, cut it to get the ‘milk’ and rub against the wound. Apparently papaya contains papain, an enzyme found in papayas, that breaks down proteins and lessens the effect of the venom.
Ok enough about the my papaya stories, here is the recipe:
PAPAYA BANANA SMOOTHIE
Half papaya (medium size & ripe) – cut into cube or scoop out using a spoon
1 medium banana (thick slice)
1 tablespoon lemon/lime juice (secret ingredient!)
1. Put all ingredients into the blender & blend.
